Modern Objects Creating Atmospheres

After years of freelancing for manufacturers in Belgium and the Netherlands, industrial designer and architect Steven Wittouck launched MOCA. The acronym stands for Modern Objects Creating Atmospheres, and the goal is to produce furniture by both Wittouck and like-minded up-and-comers.

Among the collective's debut pieces is Wittouck's Cubic chair, its padded profile modeled after a sketch of a seated woman. Available with or without arms, the beech frame can be covered in 60 wool colors or 12 varieties of leather for dimensions of 32 inches high and deep by 27  ½ wide. (A coordinating stool stands 16 inches high.) Koenraad Ruys contributed Framed, a credenza with a frame of lacquered steel, 97 inches wide. It assembles multiple compartments in high-density fiberboard painted in alternating colors-the result being a chic sort of chaos, fostering asymmetry but ultimately confining it. Choose from four standard color combinations, or consider custom treatments. 32-9-223-11-67; mocaline.com.
