For more than 40 years, MechoSystems has been in the forefront of designing and manufacturing products that help make buildings as sustainable and energy-efficient as possible. At the 2011 Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Toronto, MechoSystems showcased its latest efforts.

MechoSystems displayed MechoLux, an intelligent, software-controlled lighting-control system that automatically dims and switches lighting fixtures. It works with SolarTrac®, MechoSystems' state-of-the-art automated shade-control system. Mecholux delivers the optimum amount of daylight and artificial light as SolarTrac protects occupants from solar heat and glare.

MechoLux provides:
The optimum amount of daylight and artificial light at all times-automatically.
Measurable energy savings.

An open architecture that permits the use of any industry-standard component (dimmable ballast, lighting sensor, or occupancy sensor.)
Easy and cost-effective configuration.

MechoSystems also showcased its fully recyclable shadecloth series, the McDonough Iceland Collection, developed as part of an ongoing collaboration with William McDonough, one of the world's most renowned proponents of sustainable design.

The patterns in the shadecloth series are inspired by McDonough's own photos, collected during his visits to Iceland. The series is a continuation of MechoSystems' Cradle to Cradle Certified EcoVeil® series, launched in 2004.

The McDonough Iceland Collection has four jacquard-weave patterns, each available in four colorways, all of which represent details of the environment as interpreted by McDonough. The shadecloth material is a technical nutrient-the Cradle to Cradle term for non-natural materials that are safe, highly stable, and used in closed-loop manufacturing cycles that take materials from producer to consumer and back again indefinitely.

The Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO) yarn used in the shadecloth fabric is more than merely PVC-free-it can be reclaimed and recycled indefinitely. This approach to manufacturing means that once the material has reached the end of its useful life as a shadecloth, it can be melted down and spun again into new, first-quality material.
