Lanard Toys

Frosty Bites, Bubble Club, Good 'N Green. Those are just a few of the cutesy names of items made by Lanard Toys. Yet its Hong Kong office and showroom, renovated by Olson Kundig Architects, is all subtle sophistication in a
nature-inspired palette of colors and materials.

Blocked-up windows were reopened, brightening the 5,000-square-foot space. In the entry, honed granite paves the floor, leather-upholstered teak benches line the walls, and a cedar canopy floats overhead. Workstations for the 20-person staff were custom-built from Baltic birch plywood and veneered in ash. The showroom's acid-etched glass shelves host colorful toys, and artwork figures into the plan, too. A photographer was commissioned to shoot the series of vintage toy "portraits" in the entry and conference room. The CEO's office features a bronze based on one of Lanard's toy projectiles, more usually found in foam.
