Coaxing creativity out of the depths and onto the page or screen is no small feat, as any designer will tell you. Yet it's certainly mastered by fashion illustrator François Berthoud, who studied graphic design in his native Switzerland. He started out drawing comics but ultimately segued into portraying women's clothing, shoes, handbags, and perfume bottles for Yves Saint Laurent, Sonia Rykiel, and Bulgari as well as the New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, and European and Asian editions of Condé Nast publications.
When "François Berthoud: The Art of Fashion Illustration," opens at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich on June 22, many of the 100-plus works will be on view together for the first time. They'll be accompanied by examples of his production tools and a video documenting his process
