Asked to transform raw space in an office park into the headquarters of the U.S. Data Corporation, a supplier of marketing information such as mailing lists, Randy Brown revisited a concept he'd developed long ago for the company's previous location, downtown. The angled walls once found downtown now wrap onto the ceiling in the suburbs-jagged forms realized in no-frills gypsum-board painted an electric lime green inspired by the flashing cursor of an ancient computer monitor that Brown unearthed in the server room. By punching large apertures through the green planes along the main circulation spine, which begins at reception and ends at open workstations, he extended sight lines through the 5,000-square-foot interior. A few other walls are clad in siding for agricultural sheds: corrugated galvanized-steel panels that are ubiquitous in rural Nebraska. And the front wall of the conference room is glass displaying large and small black numbers, the area codes and zip codes that U.S. Data targets in the Midwest and California.
