Up Close and Personal

Up Close and PersonalYou might think that attending to the finer points of our November “designers on the rise” issue would be enough to keep us busy. Not to mention simultaneously perfecting what promises to be a memorable Hall of Fame soiree, at the Waldorf as always, and the next night’s better-than-ever Best of Year Awards bash, now at Frank Gehry’s IAC Building. But no. We also saw fit to take on a whole new dimension. Video crew in tow, we revisited a previously published project, the town house that graced the cover of our recent New York issue. The result, “Designing New York,” is available for consumption on interiordesign.net.

Up Close and Personal

Walking through the house with its designer, Ghislaine Viñas, was an opportunity to test two different media in an ad hoc design laboratory to see how they stack up, and I could not possibly resist the experiment. It turns out that hearing, directly from the mouth of the creator, the salient points of her creation is simply scrumptious—and something I definitely want to do more of. It all comes down to the human touch, in this case my sublime presence and Ghislaine’s irrepressible personality. Don’t worry, though. Seductive 3-D tours notwithstanding, we still value detailed and unbiased reporting and complex but cohesive presentations, all in the service of recording our craft for posterity. How does that Reese’s commercial go? “Two great tastes that taste great together.” Print is still our prince. Just turn the page.
