Good Vibrations

 

Melding public art and social responsibility, Portraits of Hope programs have transformed buildings, blimps, tugboats, and taxicabs. The nonprofit's cofounders, brothers Bernie and Ed Massey, have now targeted the lifeguard towers lining 31 miles of beach in Los Angeles. It took 6,000 children to paint the vinyl panels for the towers and 2,000 volunteers to handle the installation-making "Summer of Color" the largest public-art project in the U.S.
