Haworth Releases Sustainability Report

The report uses international guidelines more common in Europe.

Both short- and long-term environmental objectives are the focus of the 2005 corporate sustainability report, recently released by office furniture manufacturer Haworth. The report is the first in the office furniture industry that uses the international guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Sustainability Reporting, which is more common in Europe.

In the report, Haworth outlines a vision, policies, and practices for sustainability. Current results are outlined beside predictions taking into account the firm’s long-term environmental objectives. These objectives are: zero waste and emissions, energy management, ‘green’ transportation, social responsibility, sustainable product and workspace design, sustainable site management, and stakeholder engagement.

“Our holistic approach assesses environmental impacts that reach from product design through production to customer uses and the impacts on the environment of our processes, products, and facilities. We highlight our commitment to social performance and to the communities we operate in,” says Franco Bianchi, Haworth president and CEO.

Haworth intends the report to be both a source of information for customers who share concerns for environmental impact and a tool to promote environmental stewardship, enabling the design and construction of more sustainable buildings and workspaces.
