It doesn't have grocery stores or dry cleaners, but Manhattan's burgeoning Tribeca district is about to get Issey Miyake's U.S. flagship. Designed by architect Gordon Kipping of G TECTS in association with Frank O. Gehry, the three-story, 15,000-sq.-ft. space will house Issey Miyake men's and women's collections, Pleats Please, and other lesser-known collections as well as the Japanese designer's new U.S. headquarters. G TECTS will retain the building's landmark exterior; however, the interior will incorporate a tornado-like, titanium "intervention" by Gehry. IM Tribeca is scheduled to open Fall 2001.
