Is your design great enough to be Good? If so, keep in mind that the deadline for entries in the Chicago Athenaeum's prestigious Good Design awards program is 5:00 pm Central Standard Time on July 1.
A jury of design professionals will choose the winning submissions based on innovative design, form, materials, construction, concept, function, and utility. The champs will see their works exhibited at the Chicago Athenaeum during the spring and summer of 2009.
The annual design competition and exhibition, honoring the best new products and graphic designs in a variety of categories, was first organized in Chicago in 1950 by former Metropolitan Museum of Art coordinator Edgar Kaufman Jr., and featured work by Charles and Ray Eames, Eero Saarinen, and George Nelson.
After 58 years, the goals of the program remain consistent: to create awareness about design excellence, and to honor products and industry leaders in design and manufacturing that have forged new directions in the world marketplace.
From top: Winners from last year's Good Design awards include the Diablo Mouse, designed by RKS Design and manufactured by Avemues, and Karim Rashid's Kloud Serpentine Seating System manufactured by Nienkamper.
