Takeoff for Dreamland

Mark McMenamin -- Interior Design, 1/1/2008 12:00:00 AM

Accidental overnight layovers no longer mean assuming the fetal position on the ganged seating of an airport lounge. After a debut at the U.K.'s Gatwick Airport, Yotel just opened another capsule hotel at Heathrow Airport. First-class cabins inspired Manser Practice Architects and Conran & Partners's design for the 32 units, which may be rented for as little as four hours. A 56-unit outpost opens this year at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, where Concrete Architectural Associates is also completing the first CitizenM, a 230-room "affordable luxury" hotel with furnishings from Vitra.
