Here's this week's roundup of who's doing what, where in the design community.

Nicholas Tamarin -- Interior Design, 3/21/2008 12:00:00 AM

Janet White has joined the Washington, D.C. office of Perkins + Will as principal and director of the architecture studio and federal services group. Most recently, she was design manager of the embassy program for the Department of State at KBR in Arlington, Virginia.

Kenneth Lill, president and founder of KAL Architecture, will merge his practice with New York-based design firm Mancini Duffy.

Cubellis has named John Larsen and Chris Bauer as managing principal and principal, respectively, for the firm's retail practice group. Both are based from the firm's new office in Baltimore, Maryland.

Office furniture manufacturer HNI Corporation has appointed Jerry Dittmer executive vice president and president of its HON Company brand.

Architecture, engineering, interiors, and planning firm SmithGroup has promoted Susan Arneson, Juhee Cho, Steven Cohen, Michael Kang, Angie Lee, Will Loftis, and Mark Patterson to the position of vice president.

Nila Leiserowitz of Gensler has been named designer of distinction, the highest honor bestowed by the American Society of Interior Designers. The award will be presented in New Orleans during the society's annual meeting, Interior 08: The ASID Conference on Design.

Midwest interior design firm Susan Fredman Design Group has promoted Barbara Ince to vice president and design director and Barbara Theile to vice president and Chicago team leader.

International materials consultancy Material ConneXion has promoted Michele Caniato to president.

The Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) has hired Jack Wiant as chief operating officer for the school.

California-based architecture firm Ratcliff has promoted Joseph Nicola to associate principal.

Fixture manufacturing and project management firm idX Corporation has named Lisa Thompson director of environmental development.

Poliform opened Via, a new 12,000-square-foot flagship store in Hong Kong.

Häfele opened a new 5,000-square-foot showroom at 154 West Hubbard Street in Chicago's River North neighborhood.

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation board of directors elected Cary Johnson of Gensler as board chair and appointed Robert Wright, Kaye Gosline, and John Weigand to the board.

Office system manufacturer Inscape Corporation appointed Nikki Keenan regional manager for the greater Philadelphia market and added two companies, Inspiration Office and Creative Office Concepts, to its premier dealer program.
