IFDA New England Walk Design EducationIt's time to pull out your most stylish walking shoes as the New England Chapter of the International Furnishings and Design Association hosts its first-ever Quest for Knowledge Walk.

The chapter is one of national organization's 16 charitable branches participating in the inaugural Walk for Design Education fundraiser, with the goal of increasing endowment levels and awards for the IFDA Education Foundation's student scholarship and grant funds.

The event kicks off April 30 from the lobby of the Boston Design Center, where walkers will pay a $25 entry fee ($10 for students) and grab a "report card" with a list of participating showrooms. The do-gooders will receive a stamp for each space they visit, and then exchange their completed cards for a raffle ticket for a party to be held later that day at the Furniture Guild.

The IFDA Education Foundation's student scholarships and grants support college interior design programs, universal design, historic preservation and professional development.  The awards include a new green/sustainable scholarship, and others for furniture design, marketing internship, student members, part time and graduate students. There’s also an IFDA Leader’s commemorative scholarship.

"We are delighted to be participating in this national IFDA/EF event that will help support talented students who are the future of the design and furnishings industry," says New England Chapter president, Wayne Southworth. "It’s also gratifying to help provide grants in specific areas, such as restoring significant historic structures and universal design, which has the goal of improving the quality of life for all, whatever their age or capabilities."
