Sonic Design

Perfect for the do-it-yourselfer long on drive, but short on skill. With the BinderLight you create the shades by looping papers of your own choosing through its five ring binder mechanisms. A central acrylic diffuser, housing a fluorescent light source, does the rest. 181 North 11th Street, #206, Brooklyn, NY 11211; 718-387-7927; sonicny.com. circle 705

Float

Mooning isn't just for inebriated frat boys anymore. Whether resting on the floor or hung as pendants, the Moon Lamp's globes of thin, hand-laid fiberglass—in cream, amber, blue, or ochre—glow from behind their sand-blasted finish. Slightly elliptical, with a 32 inch diameter at its widest point, they can be specified for outdoor use. 1804 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103; 215-557-0583; floatland.com. circle 710

Ellips

For simple gestures, look to the Shiny Tara pendant lamp. The four fronds of its one-piece polypropylene diffuser are joined together at a single point. It comes in two sizes, 5 by 6 inches and 13 by 11 inches, and is available in orange, gray, white, and lilac. 37 Alter Rehmer Weg, D-32547 Bad Oeynhausen, Germany; 49-57-3125-4040; ellips.de. circle 706

Iris Design Studio

Commissioned for an exhibition exploring East meeting West, the Perito Moreno Arabesque wall or ceiling-mounted light is inspired by middle eastern tiles—but with half of an Edison light bulb, lit by a halogen source, affixed to its surface. With irregularly scalloped edges, it comes in purple, turquoise, and custom colors. 6 Hamelacha Street, Lod 71520, Israel; 866-245-3312; irisdesignstudio.com. circle 709

Hivemindesign

With its intricate silk threading arranged in mathematical patterns, like a spiral drawing, the Gossamer pendant has all the delicate detail of spider webs and lace. Available with incandescent or fluorescent lamping, its 32-inch diameter bowl shade comes in white powder-coated, blackened, or clear-finished steel, while silk choices include red, white, black, or gray. 47 Thames Street, Suite 104, Brooklyn, NY 11237; 718-782-3539; hivemindesign.com. circle 708

Spaltana

It's not just big game hunters who will appreciate Spaltana's Forest and Shade table lamp—its base is assembled from naturally shed deer antlers! Choose from black parchment, white, or oyster linen drum shades. Room, 182 Duane Street, New York, NY 10013;212-226-1045; roomonline.com. circle 707

Tech Lighting

Luxo

Guests will flock to the Vola halogen pendant light. Alone or clustered together, they have frosted blown-glass diffusers and polycarbonate wings that evoke birds in flight. But the best part: Turn them on, and metal springs expand to lift the wings into gliding position; turn them off, and the wings slowly lower. Also available with fixed flappers. 200 Clearbrook Road, Elmsford, NY 10523; 800-222-5896; luxous.com. circle 711

Artemide

The Talak table lamp has got you covered—wherever you are. Available in freestanding, table-clamped, and wall-mounted versions, its far-reaching, 34-inch long arm is height-adjustable on a chromed steel stem and rotates 360 degrees horizontally. The arm houses a miniature fluorescent light source and comes in a matte white powder-coated finish. 1980 New Highway, Farmingdale, NY 11735; 631-694-9292; artemide.us. circle 714

Woggon

The Veneer Line Sconce goes with the grain. Its 4 by 15-inch brushed aluminum frame houses an acrylic diffuser that backs a knotty pine veneer. It accepts compact fluorescent or incandescent lamping. 3720 North Fratney Street, Suite 2F, Milwaukee, WI 53212; 414-322-1316; woggon.net. circle 713

Estiluz

The Karina light takes the form of an iconic table lamp—but adds a few twists. Made of a single, hand-blown piece of Pyrex glass, its four-sided shade looks torqued against its four-sided base, while the dimmable halogen light source illuminates an inner funnel that evokes a burning candle. 235 Moonachie Road, Moonachie, NJ 07074; 201-641-1997; estiluz.com. circle 712

Leucos

The Katerina light, by the Swedish designer Thomas Sandell, will, like Madonna, get you into the groove. Poltrona Frau

Two bells of fluted, hand-blown Murano glass combine to create the elegant hourglass shape of Jean-Marie Massaud's Alma desk lamp. Pallucco

The Gilda lamp, designed in 1997 by Enrico Franzolini, now comes newly embellished as Gilda Ornaments. It's still a telescoping floor or suspension lamp with an oversized shade. bahdeebahdu

An old saying: One man's trash is another's lighting system. Found and recycled objects animate Warren Muller's one-off, site-specific light sculptures. Take the Symphony chandelier, which artfully assembles everything from a caviar tin (which doubles as a junction box), a galvanized bucket, and ice tongs to a cut-crystal basket, pastry whisk, and glass-blowing cast-offs — all within an inspired tangle of copper tubing illuminated by a hodgepodge of incandescent bulbs. 309 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106; 215-627-5002; bahdeebahdu.com. circle 723

Fabulux

If only all of life was this easy: a few twists of the wrist change the look of the Skupina Corso hanging lamp. Its brushed aluminum dish, available in a 17 or 30-inch diameter, is studded with light sockets. Switch your old bulbs for others, or even mix and match. The space race is over, but the Sate-lite chandelier is still out of this world. It's easy going up against a Hidden Agenda—the floor lamp, that is. Its tapered acrylic panel simply leans against the wall. DRCA Business Centre, Unit 37, Charlotte Despard Avenue, London SW11 5HD, UK; 44-20-7627-3463; afroditi.com. circle 729
