Chuck Close and Bruce Mau to Speak

Architecture and design critic Paul Goldberger, dean of the college, will lead the talks.

Staff -- Interior Design, 10/17/2005 12:00:00 AM

Parsons dean Paul Goldberger, dean of New York's Parsons the New School for Design will lead conversations with influential voices in art, architecture, and design over the next several months, for the college's At the Parsons Table series. First up is artist Chuck Close, October 27. He will be followed by designer Bruce Mau, to be featured December 15.

With Close, architecture and design critic Goldberger will address some of the most "topical issues" in the arts before a live audience at The New School's Tishman Auditorium. Close has spent three decades subverting concepts of portraiture. Larger than life and labor intensive, Close's Faces--friends, family members, and more-often-than-not, himself--take on the dimensionality of vast topographic maps, grid systems, or kaleidoscopes.

Bruce Mau, principal of his namesake firm, has gained international recognition for innovation across a wide range of business and cultural disciplines. He collaborates with some of the world's leading architects, artists,
writers, curators, academics, entrepreneurs, businesses, and institutions. The Tishman Auditorium is located at 66 West 12th Street. The events begin at 6:30pm. Tickets, available via email, are $15 for general admission; advance tickets are strongly advised. Parsons The New School for Design is one of the largest degree-granting colleges of art and design in the nation, with approximately 3,500 students in degree programs, and 2,500 non-degree students from all 50 states and approximately 60 countries.
