ASID-IL Offers $5,000 in Scholarships

Entries are due April 30th and May 30th.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 3/30/2007 12:00:00 AM

The American Society of Interior Designers-Illinois Chapter (ASID-IL) will award five interior design students in Illinois with $1,000-scholarships this summer. Bestowed via two scholarships, the funds will be used to offset the costs of tuition, books, and supplies. Students must be enrolled full time and be members of the ASID (student, allied, or professional).

“We’re looking forward to selecting five great students who will be deserving of these scholarship awards, and encourage them to ‘think big’ and join us in advancing our profession,” says Joyal E. Watkins, Jr., 2006-07 ASID-IL chapter president

Three $1,000 Richard R. Smith Memorial Scholarships, recognizing excellence in design, will be awarded. Applicants will be given design requirements for an “as built” footprint of a space to serve a small commercial retail store with an apartment for the store's owner. Entries are due May 30.

The financial-need based Dale Niece Memorial Scholarship competition, an essay contest, includes two $1,000-awards. Applicants must write a 250- to 400-word essay on the importance of taking the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) exam. Entries are due April 30 and must include proof of financial need.

For complete application information, visit ASID-IL or call the ASID Illinois Chapter headquarters at 312-467-5080.
