    • Presenter: Donna V. Robertson, FAIA, Dean of the College of Architecture
      Illinois Institute of Technology

      • An academic leader of national and international stature, Robertson has led IIT’s College of Architecture to national prominence. She has established a graduate program in Landscape Architecture, organized the design and construction of the McCormick Tribune Campus Center, the State Street Village residence hall, and the restoration of S.R. Crown Hall. She has been named as one of the top 30 most respected educators by Design Intelligence magazine for bridging design practice and education.

  • 1.45–2.30 pm — Diversity and Design: Driving the High-Growth Visual Enterprise

    • Presenter: Lewis Williams, Chief Creative Officer
      Burrell Communications

      • Lewis Williams is chief creative officer with Burrell, named Advertising Age‘s 2006 "Multicultural Agency of the Year," and whose national advertising programs (Lexus, Toyota, Crest) have been applauded for "transforming how African-Americans are portrayed in the media." Williams previously worked with Leo Burnett for 15 years.

  • 2.30–3.30 pm — Unlocking the Design Super-Studio: Ways to Build a Better Firm

    • This all-star panel discusses the toughest issues facing design firms: Can leading designers stay true to their vision today? How do the best interior design and architecture firms think and strategize? Why do the top firms rely less on technologies like e-mail and 3-D renderings? Most important, how do you encourage your people to lead with design and art, rather than just business ideas?

By creating a business/marketing "road map," participants will learn how to better communicate their understanding of the client and competitive environment—and position the firm for the right audiences and timeframe.

      • John Harris is principal of a5 Inc., which develops integrated marketing strategy and campaigns for highly design-focused and sustainable organizations. Harris’s agency is the brains behind well-known identity/messaging and design campaigns for such companies as CI Select, Steelcase, Landworks, ERG International, ASLA Illinois, and Steelcase’s Green by Design.

  • 4.45–5.30 pm — The Green Future: Sustainability Trends Driving Tomorrow's Designs

    • Presenter: James Wines, President and Creative Director
      SITE

      • James Wines was educated at Syracuse University, where he studied art history, sculpture and literature, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1956. He is the founder and president of SITE, the former Chair of Environmental Design and Parsons School of Design and currently a Professor of Architecture at Penn State University. At both Parsons and Penn State he has worked on the development of graduate and professional programs in architecture. His book DE-ARCHITECTURE was published in 1987 by Rizzoli International and, in 2000, Taschen Verlag in Germany released his book GREEN ARCHITECTURE. Winner of twenty-five art and design awards, including the 1995 Chysler award for Design Innovation, he is also the recipient of fellowships and grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, The Kress Foundation, The American Academy in Rome, The Guggenheim Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, The Graham Foundation, The Ford Foundation, and the Pulitzer Prize for Graphics.
