SHoP Architects Helms Bicoastal Projects

Firm teams with Cardinal Investments for New York residential, California commercial properties

Laura B. Weiss -- Interior Design, 9/12/2007 12:00:00 AM

Real estate developer Cardinal Properties is teaming with SHoP Architects to unveil two new projects, one for each coast.

In California, the developer has selected SHoP to design The Boardroom, a mixed-use commercial development of offices and condominiums situated in Hermosa Beach, just one block from the Pacific. And 3,000 miles away, in New York, Cardinal Investments and SHoP have teamed to create the nearly completed Manhattan residential project, m127.

Scheduled to break ground this fall, the three-story Hermosa Beach building is constructed of concrete, ipe wood and glass. Condos will boast private balconies and courtyards. In addition to the office component, there is retail and restaurant space.  To cater to the area’s active lifestyle, the building will also include spa-quality locker rooms.

"We are excited to bring their distinctive architecture to the West Coast," says Kyle Ransford, general partner of Cardinal Investments, of the collaboration with SHoP.

m127 consists of nine lofts in a 13-story property located on Madison Avenue between 30th and 31st Streets, ranging in size from 1,550 square feet to 2,400 square feet. To fashion the structure, the architects have reconfigured seven existing floors while adding five new ones; the first seven floors are visible from street level, and the top five are set back 15 feet. Interior details include glass tiled bathrooms appointed with Duravit soaking tubs, Robern medicine cabinets, and Catalano sinks with HansGrohe / Philippe Starck designed faucets.
