Around Town

edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 2/1/2003 12:00:00 AM

Away from the Los Angeles Convention Center, the city of angels has plenty to offer. At the J. Paul Getty Museum, "Bill Viola: The Passions" (through April 27) presents 13 works by the pioneering video artist; they range from large projection pieces to small LCD displays. For a different perspective, try "Surrealist Muse: Lee Miller, Roland Penrose, and Man Ray, 1925-1945," (through June 15). 310-440-7300; getty.edu.

The U.C.L.A. Hammer Museum's "Jim Isermann: Utopia Now" (through mid-March) showcases the California artist's deft handling of thermal die-cut vinyl decals—the installation resembles a minimalist pop-art domicile. In addition, the Hammer is showing "International Paper: Drawings by Emerging Artists" (through April 27), "Hammer Project: Erick Swenson" (through May 4), and "Tomoko Takahashi: Auditorium Piece" (through June 1). 310-443-7000; hammer.ucla.edu.
