Last Fall at Orgatec in Cologne, the Herman Miller booth drew attendees with unique design elements including walls made of ivy. Now the creative endeavor has garnered the furniture manufacturer a Gold Award in the 21st Annual Exhibit Design Awards competition, sponsored by Exhibitor Magazine.
Designed by Amsterdam-based Totems Architecture and Design, the Herman Miller booth was fabricated from 'resource screens,' each telling a story about Herman Miller and its commitment to the environment. For example, ivy represented environmental stewardship, paper represented transparency, and cardboard represented reducing waste.
Winners were selected by an international panel of designers including: Michael Bierut, partner, Pentagram, New York; Bill Cahan, founder and creative director Cahan & Associates, San Francisco; Michael Carabetta, creative director, Chronicle Books LLC, San Francisco; Dian Duvall, principal, Gensler, San Francisco; Clark Manus, CEO, Heller Manus Architects, San Francisco; Clement Mok, designer, instigator, and consultant, CMCD, San Francisco; and Debra Nichols, founder, Debra Nichols Design, San Francisco.
The Exhibit Design Awards were created in 1986 to recognize the world's best tradeshow exhibit designs. The awards program consists of Gold, Silver, and Special Merit Awards offered in 16 categories, as well as an EDGE Award (for Exhibit Design and Graphic Excellence).
Orgatec showcases lighting, flooring, and furnishings and is considered the world’s largest contract interiors trade fair.
We would love your feedback!
