In a career spanning nearly four decades, Antonio Citterio has turned multitasking into an art. Ring up the Interior Design Hall of Fame member, and he may be building headquarters for Ermenegildo Zegna, designing interiors for Aspesi, handling both tasks for Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, or, in this case, launching a trio of office introductions for Vitra.
Citterio's AC 4 task chair, already a winner of Germany's prestigious Red Dot Design Award, is clearly intended for functionalists—concealing its ergonomic workings in a slender frame of die-cast aluminum. The polyamide backrest is divided into three sections that move independently, wrapped in polyurethane foam and covered in 13 fabrics or seven leathers. The five-star base is polished aluminum.
For aesthetes, Citterio focused on form with the Skape executive swivel chair. Its molded plastic back cradles polyurethane-foam cushions covered in seven leathers. The die-cast aluminum base comes in two configurations: five-star with castors or four-star with gliders.
Total-office aficionados will appreciate his Ace executive workstation. A light-as-air desktop is actually a die-cast mineral composite supported by aluminum legs alone or two legs and a credenza. The latter measures 79 inches wide, while a freestanding credenza, not connected to the worktable, is 39 inches. For the tabletop, there are also two versions: curved at 98 inches long and triangular at 94½ inches. 770-904-6830; vitra-usa.com. circle 449
