IIDA Names Winners of First Annual Government Design Awards

Winning projects include a food and drug administration center and a post office.

Four firms take top honors in the first annual IIDA Government Design Awards, presented by the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). Recognized for design excellence in the categories of Administration Buildings, Dormitories and Quarters, Healthcare and Hospitality, the firms will be honored at contract furnishings event NeoCon East tomorrow in Baltimore, Maryland.

The four winning projects, selected by interior designer Deborah Loveridge and IIDA government forum advisor Mariann Schofield, are listed below.

1. Firm: Dick & Fritsche Design Group
Project: Peoria Development and Community Services Building, Peoria, Arizona
   
2. Firm: RTKL Associates

Project: Food and Drug Administration - Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, Building 51, Silver Spring, Maryland

3. Firm: Trivers Associates
Project: The Old Post Office, St. Louis, Missouri

4. Firm: Young + Co.
Project: Comprehensive Combat & Complex Casualty Care Complex, San Diego, California

"I am thrilled by the number and variety of the submissions for the first annual IIDA Government Design Awards," says Schofield. "This competition recognizes that outstanding design is a vital element of government facilities and will be a staple of government design for years to come."

NeoCon East runs October 29-30 at the Baltimore Convention Center.
