Glass Art Hotel to Open in Tacoma, WA

A book highlighting the hotel and each participating artist is in the works.

Nicholas Tamarin -- Interior Design, 10/29/2007 12:00:00 AM

Hotel Murano, decked out with the work of over 40 glass artists from around the world, will open in downtown Tacoma, Washington in March 2008. Featured artists include Dale Chihuly of the United States, Hiroshi Yamano of Japan, Richard Whiteley of Australia, Miriam de Fiore of Italy, Karen La Monte of the Czech Republic, Vibeke Skov of Denmark, Janusz Walentynowicz of Poland, and Costas Varotsos of Greece, among others.

Varotsos's large-scale glass work will greet visitors from the entrance and each guest room floor will showcase the work and history of a highlighted artist. The inspiration and process for the artist's featured piece will be relayed in the corridors to the guest rooms. Rooms will feature hand-blown bedside lamps and Murano hallwayglass-topped vanities along with state-of-the-art flat-screen televisions and iPod docking stations. The hotel will also include a restaurant, Bite, and a lobby bar.

The hotel is located next to Tacoma's museum and theater districts, adjacent to the Greater Tacoma Convention & Trade Center, and about 30 minutes from Seattle.

Publication is planned for a book highlighting the individual stories of each artist.
