A newly renovated furniture showroom in New York is proudly displaying the LEED stamp from the U.S. Green Building Council. Furniture manufacturer Kimball Office has landed LEED-CI (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Commercial Interiors) for its Union Square location.
Designed by TVS Interiors, the 12,000-square-foot 215 Park Avenue South showroom incorporates recycled, rapidly renewable, and low VOC materials and maximizes natural light. Low-flow fixtures reduce water consumption and more than 75 percent of the construction waste material was recycled.
Kimball Office also used the project as an educational look at green design, sharing progress with clients.
"Using the LEED-CI guidelines helped us improve the environmental performance of our New York space and gave us an effective model for demonstrating environmentally sustainable ideas and solutions to commonly experienced renovation problems," says Douglas Prickett, director of sustainable design for Kimball Office.
TVS Interiors also designed Kimball Office's LEED Silver-certified Chicago showroom and LEED Gold-certified Jasper, Indiana showroom.
