Win a Car with Hand-Made Car Accessories

Submissions can range from seat covers, floor mats, and steering wheel covers to tissue holders and key chains.

Car manufacturer Scion has launched a unique design contest for innovative crafters. Coined Craft my Ride, and carrying the tagline "Not Your Grandma's Sewing Circle," the competition calls for hand-made Scion car accessories designed for a Scion vehicle. Entries are due October 22.

The contest is an appeal to the "Do It Yourself" crowd, the manufacturer says. Tapping arts and crafts materials such as yarn, fabric, paper, metal, buttons, beads, and ribbon, submissions can range from items such as key chains, seat covers, floor mats, steering wheel covers, and tissue holders. Winners will be selected by a jury of craft-friendly retail stores across the United States and considered for future collaborations with the firm.

The grand prize winner will take home a 2008 Scion xD five-door subcompact. Second and third place winners will receive $1,000 and $500 respectively.

"Similar to indie films, underground music, and the street art movement, we believe the arts and crafts community harbors undiscovered talent," says Alan Mimaki, Scion business operations manager. "We want to support raw talent in any form, and to build a lasting relationship within these burgeoning artistic groups."

Finalists will be selected November 2, and winners will be posted online in December. Visit Craft my Ride for a complete list of entry information.
