Sustainable Design and Technology Conference in Washington, D.C.

Keynote sessions will be given by a Gensler principal and the CEO of HOK.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 8/15/2007 12:00:00 AM

Each Fall, members of the design and construction industry gather for the annual Ecobuild America Fall and AEC Science & Technology. Two industry-renowned keynote speakers were recently announced for the conference and exhibition, which is scheduled for December 10-13 at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

On Wednesday, December 12, RK Stewart, principal at design, planning, and strategic consulting firm Gensler, will take the stand with Creating a Case For Sustainable Design. Stewart will discuss topics including energy consumption and carbon emissions, sustainable design trends within corporate America, and client support for green design in the commercial and residential building sector. Sponsored by the American Institute of Architects, Stewart's keynote address will run from 1pm-2pm.

On Thursday December 13, Patrick MacLeamy, CEO at global architecture firm HOK and a founder of the IAI/buildingSMART Alliance, will present buildingSMART: The Transformation of the Building Industry. MacLeamy will discuss the building and manufacturing industries—in particular, their differences. His session is based on the belief that manufacturing continues to improve in the design, usefulness, and quality of products while the building industry continues to diminish in design usefulness and quality. The session will run from 1pm-2pm and is sponsored by the National Institute of Building Sciences, buildingSMART Alliance.

Attendance to the keynote sessions is free with registration by November 9 at Ecobuild America Fall or AEC Science & Technology.

The conference is held in cooperation with Green Building Initiative (GBI); Green Mechanical Council; Specifications Consultants in Independent Practice (SCIP); U.S. Commercial Service, U.S. Department of Commerce; and the National Institute of Building Sciences, buildingSMART Alliance. Bentley Systems is the corporate sponsor.
