Milliken Striving for LEED with New York Showroom

Adhesive-free Milliken carpet will cover floors.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 10/10/2007 12:00:00 AM

Milliken plans to land LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for its Milliken Floor Covering showroom in New York. The textile and chemical manufacturer has registered the space, located at 875 Avenue of the Americas in the Greeley Square Building, with LEED for Commercial Interiors (LEED-CI).

Selected with LEED criteria in mind, the space offers an abundance of natural light and views of Manhattan. The design team includes design firm Q Studio; architect of record Mancini-Duffy; and LEED administrators Catalyst Partners. To earn LEED-CI certification, special attention is paid to lighting design, the HVAC system, and location (access to public transportation). Bathrooms will be refitted and flooring will consist of adhesive-free Milliken carpet.

Milliken’s showroom in Chicago’s Mercandise Mart, worldwide headquarters in Spartanburg, and the Milliken Design Center in LaGrange, Georgia are also expected to land LEED certification.

"The Mancini-Duffy Team respects Milliken’s approach and is excited to collaborate as a team member on projects whose strategic design initiative is to achieve LEED certification," says Bill Bouchey, design principal with Mancini-Duffy. "Furthermore, it mirrors a consciousness we value and which is growing in our practice."
