Material ConneXion Opens First Asia Location

New materials well be voted into the resource library each month.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 11/3/2005 12:00:00 AM

Bankok, Thailand is soon to be the first Asian hub for surfacing resource library Material ConneXion. The library, which features a juried selection of new and innovative materials, will open its fourth international licensee on November 14.

Currently the largest global resource for new materials, Material ConneXion offers designers a place to track down polymers, glass, ceramics, carbon-based materials, cement-based materials, metals, natural materials and natural material derivatives--some 2,000 are online.

The Bankok resource library will be home to 600 materials--including recent market introductions and cutting-edge applications. Members of the New York office and invited representatives from design disciplines will vote in new materials to add to the selection each month.

The facility will also house a multi-million dollar library of design-related books, a multimedia resource center, meeting spaces, and an exhibition space.

Material ConneXion president and founder George M. Beylerian sites the country’s commitment to design spurred the arrangement: “We feel that Thailand has taken a very strong step with its commitment to design and to the material world. The commitment is most obvious from their substantial financial commitment, design aesthetics, efficient, and exacting performance.”

The firm hopes to make a large impact on material developments in the Asian community.
