Great Dane Meets Zen Master
Danish luxury-goods company Georg Jensen tapped into the Japanese talent of Tadao Ando Architect & Associates to design a Los Angeles boutique awash in water references. Viewing additional images in our online slide show is almost as good as being right there on Rodeo Drive.
Taking cues from traditional Japanese architecture and imagery, then applying a touch of swank, Skylab Design Group has refashioned a 2,700-square-foot mall location in Tualatin, Oregon—a suburb of Portland—as a Japanese restaurant and lounge. On interiordesign.net, investigate Sinju Restaurant's red-lacquered fireplace and faceted acrylic ceiling, plus an entire wall tiled in ceramic sushi plates.
Where the Wild Things Are
Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Chong Partners Architecture have begun work on the "Rainforests of the World" exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Instead of Golden Gate Park, think Amazon—complete with live catfish and turtles in a 100,000-gallon tank. See construction photos online.
