Model Reproductions

THIS MONTH, the Canadian-based furniture company William Switzer opens a New York showroom on the 18th floor of the D & D Building. In Suite 1801, Switzer offers a collection of antique reproductions ranging from Louis XV, Biedermeier, and Venetian Rococo to Art Deco. Next door, Switzer's Lucien Rollin collection is showcased in its own quasi-independent space. The Rollin flagship showroom features replicas of the designer's Art Moderne furniture from 1933 to 1946. More than 40 new designs round out the Rollin collection.
"As our design interests at William Switzer have broadened to include 20th-century influences, the archival nature of the Lucien Rollin collection provides an opportunity to reintroduce the work of a legendary but somewhat forgotten master," says Allan Switzer, design director for the Lucien Rollin collection. Shown here are Rollin's armless chaise Apollon in African cotibe wood; Athenes side table in wenge; the Wilshire table made from Macassar ebony; and the Aubusson dining and side chairs in lemonwood with brass or nickel hardware. Other Switzer introductions include the Austrian Biedermeier-style arm chair made of hand-carved walnut and finished with a French polish, and an Art Deco arm chair, hand-carved and reproduced from the original Switzer collection.
