Council for Interior Design Accreditation to Update Standards

Sponsors include the ASID and the IIDA.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 2/6/2007 12:00:00 AM

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) has embarked on a three-year program to revamp standards used to measure interior design academic programs.

For its first step, the independent non-profit interior design accrediting organization, formally FIDER, plans to introduce priorities presented during CIDA’s Future Vision session, a recent meeting between industry leaders. These proposed priorities will serve as the backbone for the next generation of accreditation standards for interior design programs. Employers, interior designers, and educators will be used to test and insure the validity of the changes.

Sponsors in the Standards Revision Project include the ASID Foundation, IIDA, Haworth, Steelcase, Gensler Chicago, and STUDIOS Architecture, Washington DC.

“Future demands will require shifts and modifications in the educational preparation of aspiring designers,” says Joe Pettipas, CIDA board chair, “We’re thinking ahead.”
