The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) has announced the winners of its annual National Design-Build Project Awards, recognizing companies excelling in both the design and the construction of a project. The design-build process dates back to ancient Mesopotamia, where the Code of Hammurabi fixed accountability upon master builders for both design and construction.
The awards were bestowed to companies in 13 categories for projects that demonstrated successful design-build principles including collaboration in the early stages of a project and the acceptance of single-entity risk for architecture, engineering, and construction. To qualify, projects must be completed both on time and without litigation. Award-winning projects display an advanced and innovative application of total integrated project delivery, according to program organizers.
Major winners include the Absher Construction Company, in the category of Public Sector Building Over $15 million, for the FYO4 Whole Barracks Renewal in Fort Lewis, Washington; and JE Dunn Construction, for the H&R Block World Headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri, in the Private Sector Building Over $15 million category.
BBG-BBGM took home a National Design-Build Award in the Rehabilitation/Renovation/Restoration category for the Pentagon Library and Conference Center in Arlington, Virginia.
