Architects and artists including Tadao Ando, Shigeru Ban, Frei Otto, and Alvaro Siza will present prototypes for segments of a 650-acre expanse of farmland near Cologne, Germany at the AIA New York Chapter’s Center for Architecture. On view September 23-December 31, "Hombroich Spaceplacelab" is a merger of art, architecture, and landscape.
Each designer takes on a 40-acre lot. The challenge? Ninety-percent of the lot must be dedicated to the development of landscape, while only 10 percent is allowed for built structures. Models, drawings, plans, and photographs of each participants project will be on view.
On October 7, the Center will host a special reception and viewing of the exhibition in conjunction with Architecture Week 2005.
The Center for Architecture, located at 536 LaGuardia Place, is open 9am to 8pm, Monday-Friday, and 11am to 5pm, Saturdays. Admission is free.
