Design Exchange Calls for Entries

Three winners each from 12 categories will be selected by a jury and announced on November 23.

Staff -- Interior Design, 9/1/2006 12:00:00 AM

The Design Exchange Awards competition, which aims to promote Canadian design excellence, is making its annual call for entries. The deadline for project submissions is October 6. The competition, which “recognizes the critical role of design in all types of organizations” (including commercial entities such as large and small businesses, non-profit organizations, and the public sector), particularly celebrates successful relationships between clients and designers. Known as the DXA, the contest honors design based on results, balancing function, aesthetics, and economic success.

Ultimately, the program is designed to expand national understanding of design as an essential resource, demonstrating that design impacts business success and quality of life, and promoting design’s critical role in sustainability. A jury of designers, business executives, and community leaders will select up to three winners in each of the 12 categories, which include the following: Commercial and residential architecture; engineering, fashion and industrial design; commercial and residential and temporary or portable interior design; landscape architecture and urban design; brand and identity; content development and editorial visual communications; and the Canadian company or CEO with the best design strategy.

Designers from all disciplines operating in Canada are eligible to submit (pdf) as many entries as they would like. (Interested parties may also contact dxa@dx.org with registration and submission questions.) DXA winners will be announced and the awards presented at a gala dinner at the Design Exchange in Toronto on November 23. An exhibition of projects will also be held at the Design Exchange from November 24 through January 21.
