Christies to Hold Record-breaking Art and Design Sale

Christie’s predicts over $3 million for Magnificent Tiffany, a sale covering the whole gamut of works from Tiffany Studios.

Image courtesy of Christie This weekend, Christie’s will hold its largest sale ever of 20th century art decorative art and design in its New York Rockefeller saleroom. Featuring over 900 lots, the auction house expects to top $20 million in sales—record numbers.

The event kicks off on Monday at 2pm with the Pinhas Collection: Part 1, featuring over 150 of the most important examples of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glass produced by French glass maker Daum.

Highlights include chandeliers, paperweights, a rare Favrile glass mosaic panel, and light fixtures including a ‘Magnolia’ floor lamp, circa 1920 (estimate: $1,000,000-1,500,000). With over 90 lots, Christie’s predicts over $3 million for this sale alone.

The day will conclude at 6pm, with A Private Collection of G.Argy-Rousseau and Rene Lalique - Masters of French Design, a selection of glass from 20th century French designers René Lalique and Gabriel Argy-Rousseau.

Tuesday's sales begin at 10am with 21/21 Historical Design - 21 years for the 21st century, celebrating the 21st anniversary of New York’s Historical Design gallery, followed by Important 20th Century Decorative Art & Design at 2pm, and Parisian Fire and Light - Works by Line Vautrin at 5pm. The latter includes Sequins and Roi Soleil, mirrors circa 1960 which the auction house bills as extremely rare, and estimates at $40,000-60,000.
