1. In its Gyroscope series,the Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., re-cycles art from the permanent collection in temporary thematic exhibitions. This year, the recycling goes one step further: Featured work by Josef Albers, Alexander Calder, and Man Ray is all made from repurposed materials. 2. Ceramic sculptures and prints by an art professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, are traveling south for the fall. At the Arizona State University Art Museum in Tempe, "Between Clouds of Memory: Akio Takamori, A Mid-Career Survey"covers a 30-year period through 42 sculptures, culminating with his stoneware Karak from 2005. 3. When the Los Angeles Asian & Tribal Art Showdebuted in 1991, it included only regional galleries. Since then, the annual fair has grown to include 65 international participants presenting furniture, textiles, and jewelry, with a preview night benefiting the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Southern Asian Art Council. 4. Jan Peter Van Doorn and Bert Jan Van Egteren are the painter-pioneers behind Amsterdam's De Kunstfabriek. With a name that means "the art factory," this gallery sells modestly priced paintings based on digital photography. Among the 30 examples in "The Immortal Goldfish"is an oil on canvas, Goldfuish. 5. Miami's Moore Space, an experimental venue that operates out of Design District premises donated by developer Craig Robins, is putting a new spin on fiber media. "Hanging by a Thread"explores weaving, quilting, and papier-mâchéin pieces by 25 artists, among them Rowena Dring, Kent Henrickson, Frances Trombly, and Orly Cogan, who hand-stitched embroidery on vintage linen for her Allegory, 2005.
