A geothermal HVAC system and a gray-water program will figure prominently among the greenery at Denmark's Herning Center for the Arts. Selected in an international competition, Steven Holl Architects broke ground in June for a 2009 opening. The exterior's sunshades will reduce energy consumption by 50 percent, while the 60,000-square-foot interior will house not only the Herning Art Museum but also the MidWest music hall and a venue for "Socle du Monde," a biennial formerly held in a shirt factory.
