IIDA Reveals Winners of Two Major Awards Programs

A selection of the winning projects will be highlighted in the NeoCon issue of Interior Design.

Architects and designers around the world have been anxiously awaiting the results of two mega design competitions. Presented by the International Interior Design Association, the 36th Annual Interior Design Competition and the 17th Annual Will Ching Design Competition honor design excellence.

A selection of the winning projects will be highlighted in the NeoCon issue of Interior Design and winners will be feted June 14 at a gala during NeoCon World's Trade Fair.  To reserve a table or purchase a ticket, contact Jenny Palmer at 888-799-4432 or jpalmer@iida.org.

Judges sifted through nearly 400 projects to select this year's winners:

1. Project: Greenhouse Nightclub, New York
 Firm: Bluarch Architecture + Interiors, New York

2. Nishimura Restaurant, Shangri-La Hotel, Beijing
Firm: CL3 Architects Limited, Hong Kong

3. Museum of Tolerance, Los Angeles
Firm: Yazdani Studio of Cannon Design, Los Angeles

4. Fornari Headquarters, Milan
Firm: Giorgio Borruso Design, Marina Del Rey, California

5. Wing Luke Asian Museum, Seattle, Washington
Firm:  Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects, Seattle, Washington

6. Cathedral of Christ the Light, Oakland, California
Firm:  Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, San Francisco

The Will Ching Design Award--a tribute to outstanding commercial design by firms of five or fewer individuals--went to KOKO Architecture + Design for a gallery/exhibition space dedicated to the best of contemporary Nordic art and design, Gallery More North in New York.

"In the midst of so much economic turmoil, it is encouraging and rewarding to see winning entries representing museum and gallery spaces, a sustainable nightclub, a hotel restaurant, and a corporate space repurposing historic porcelain workshops," says Cheryl S. Durst, executive vice president and CEO, IIDA.
