On the Move

Here's this week's roundup of who's doing what and where in the design community.

International architecture firm RMJM has launched the Global Health Studio, a new division specializing in healthcare design. The GHS is based in New York and operates in Europe, North, America, the Middle East and Asia under the leadership of principal Steven Gifford.

Atlanta-based furniture manufacturer Geiger International, a wholly owned subsidiary of Herman Miller, has purchased Hickory, North Carolina-based wood products producer Ruskin Industries. Ruskin, which has produced carved wood pieces for Steinway pianos and solid-wood chair frames for HBF and Cabot Wrenn, will become the primary supplier for Geiger while continuing to serve select customers.

The Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects announced that Grant Uhlir will serve as the chapter's president for 2009. Walter Street was named president elect, set to serve as president in 2010.

International interior design and consulting firm Nelson has hired Enza Parrella as the managing director of their Chicago office, Robert Kellner as design director in their New York office, Chris Boccella as principal in New York, and Thomas Porter as the senior studio director for residential interior design and multi-family architecture in their Atlanta office.

Michael McNally is the new executive vice president of national construction company Skanska. The company also appointed Bill Flemming as the new president of their Skanska USA Building division.

North American office furniture manufacturer Allsteel has hired Ann Helmick-Lyon as a government account manager for their Southwest region, based in Austin.

International firm HDR Architecture has promoted Neal Corbett to healthcare principal in their Boston office.

San Francisco-based architectural firm Mark Cavagnero Associates Architects has hired Kang Kiang as a senior associate.
