UPenn Exhibition Showcases Louis Kahn's Interior Drawings
The 40 exhibited pieces, which include previously un-displayed drawings, comprise sketches of furniture, elevations, and interior perspectives.

The University of Pennsylvania recognizes one of its most historically celebrated faculty members, acclaimed architect Louis Kahn, with an exhibition of his interior designs at the Arthur Ross Gallery in Philadelphia beginning February 7. “Louis I. Kahn: The Making of a Room,” explores Kahn's concept of the room as the building block of architecture.
Showcasing 40 original drawings, the exhibition displays the careful consideration Kahn's architectural philosophies afforded his interior concepts. "Many of the philosophies so often attributed to Kahn's vision of his buildings are also applicable to his interiors," stated George H. Marcus, the university’s adjunct assistant professor of the History of Art.

The exhibited pieces, which include previously un-displayed drawings, comprise sketches of furniture, elevations, and interior perspectives exposing the architect’s unique vision for how spaces could be built, furnished, and inhabited.
Arthur Ross Gallery will host the exhibition through March 29. It also features gallery talks each Sunday at 1:30pm. On Tuesday, March 3, the gallery presents "Lou Kahn: Live," a special event recreating a lecture by Kahn complete with an original audio tape and slides from the late architect’s collection. The program will be held in the Architectural Archives of the University of Pennsylvania.
