Best of Britain

edited by Sheila Kim -- Interior Design, 8/1/2002 12:00:00 AM

Recipients of the annual Oxo Peugeot Design Awards, honoring innovative products by U.K. designers, have just been announced. Five grand prizes—to the tune of $25,000 each—were awarded in the categories of furniture, lighting, textiles, applied metal art, and ceramics, glass, and polymers. Winners included such whimsical and functional wares as James the Doorman, a gentlemanly rubber doorstop by Black + Blum. Judges for the competition, which drew nearly 500 entries, included Royal College of Art textile-department head Claire Johnson, fashion designer Wayne Hemingway, and British GQ editor in chief Dylan Jones. Winning products go on view at London's Oxo Tower Wharf. September 5-October 6; 44-20-7401-2255; oxotower.co.uk.
