Art Institute of Chicago Showcases Local Designers

Items on view range from cell phones and "sound suits" to furnishings and architectural models.

Clare Lyster Studio "Chicago has long been the home of truly forward-looking architecture and design," says Joseph Rosa, John H. Bryan, curator of architecture and design at the Art Institute of Chicago. Through April 26, 2007, the museum will present "Young Chicago," highlighting contemporary designers and architects on the forefront of the Windy City's design scene.

Celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the museum's architecture and design department, "Young Chicago" showcases the work of 16 exhibitors in the fields of architecture, graphic, product, and fashion design. Items on view, selected by Rosa, range from cell phones and "sound suits" to furnishings, architectural models, and fashion from the likes of Nick Cave. Companies represented include Clare Lyster Studio; Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Motorola; Jordan Mozer and Associates; Clare Lyster Studio; IDEO; Holly Hunt; and Motorola. A 104-page illustrated catalogue covering the exhibition is available in the museum shop and online.

The exhibition is part of the museum's new A+D Series, which showcases new projects and talent from the worlds of architecture and graphic and product design.

The Art Institute of Chicago, open daily, is located in Grant Park at 111 South Michigan Avenue. Adult admission is $12.
