Portwalk in Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Elkus Manfredi Architects is cleaning up. The Boston-based architecture firm has set the pace for 2009 having already secured four industry awards in their first quarter.
Praised for their planning and design work for the second phase of Portwalk, the firm took home the 2009 Urbanism award presented by the Congress for New Urbanism: New England. Elkus Manfredi’s work on the project replaced an outdated mercantile building in downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with four mixed-use buildings featuring 75,000 square feet of shops, cafes, and restaurants.

West End Residences in Boston
The National Association of Home Builders recognized the firm earlier this year with a 2009 Pillar Award for their design of the West End Residences in Boston. The residential project features approximately 300 residences and three acres of landscaped open space while incorporating urban design priorities like new pedestrian connections and expansion of community park space.

24 Waterway in Houston, Texas
Elkus Manfredi also walked away with TheHoustonBusiness Journal’s 2009 Landmark Award for their 24 Waterway commercial project in Texas. The new high-rise office building anchors the northern edge of the newly completed Waterway Square featuring a mix of retail, office, residential, and hotel space.

The Market in Plymouth, Massachusetts
Rounding out the barrage of acknowledgement, the Association for Retail Environments presented the firm with a 2009 Outstanding Merit award for the development of The Market, a 14,000-square-foot independent grocery store in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
