Sub-Zero's Kitchen Design Contest

Entries deadline: January 9, 2006.

Meaghan O'Neill -- Interior Design, 10/27/2004 12:00:00 AM

Sub-Zero Freezer Company and Wolf Appliance Company, manufacturer of professional cooking instruments, have announced an official call for entries for their 2004/2005 Kitchen Design Contest.

The seventh bi-annual contest is the company's way of recognizing the important role of kitchen design professionals, according to Jim Bakke, president and chief executive officer of Sub-Zero and Wolf.

Contest categories are:

  • Best kitchen utilizing a full-size Sub-Zero (built-in or integrated unit), and Wolf cooking appliance.

  • Best use of integrated refrigeration outside of the kitchen.

  • Best use of wine storage equipment in a unique location.

  • International Category: European and Middle East/Pacific Rim.

  • Student Category

The student category, new to the 2004/2005 Kitchen Design Contest, is open to all National Kitchen & Bath Association student members enrolled at a college or university. Student designers will have the opportunity to imagine they are remodeling a kitchen for a family of four with two children, ages three months and four years. They will be given a budget, square footage and product specifications to design a functional and attractive kitchen space.

Entrants will first compete locally amongst fellow design professionals. Fifty regional winners will be named from throughout North America. They will receive cash prizes totaling more than $25,000 and a destination trip for two where they compete for national honors. Prizes totaling $87,500 will be distributed to the national and special awards winners during an honorary celebration, which will be held March 16-20, 2006. All regional winners will be featured in the fifth edition of Great American Kitchens, a custom-published book with national distribution.

To qualify, all design and construction must be fully completed between January 1, 2004 and December 31, 2005. All entries must be received by Sub-Zero/Wolf no later than January 9, 2006.

Judges will review and select winning entries. The judging panel represents a cross section of the design and architecture field, and all are recognized leaders in their disciplines.
