Taking their wares to new heights of sustainability, a majority of furniture manufacturer National Office Furniture casegoods and seating is now being certified by the Business and Institutional Manufacturer's Association new Level program.

A LEED-like program for the contract furniture market, Level verifies conformance to BIFMA's e3 sustainability standard through a recognized third-party certifier. In National's case, it is Scientific Certification Systems.

The new program means that National products that previously earned SCS Sustainable Choice Silver and Gold certifications based on the e3 standard will now be branded Level 1 and Level 2, respectively.

"The Level program is an important step forward by BIFMA and our industry in providing customers a consistent, reliable and objective approach through third-party certifiers when assessing sustainable viability among products," says Mendy Claridge, National's product line manager. "We have a strong commitment to sustainability which is evident with the vast majority of our products [earning a Level] certification."

Currently, 92 percent of National's products earn a Level certification. Level 2-certified National casegoods include Arrowood Laminate, Casbah, Entice, EnvyWorks, Franklin, Myriad occasional tables, WaveWorks, WaveWorks conference tops, WaveWorks media and presentation components, and WaveWorks Flip/Nest training tables.
