The project is Rafael Viñoly's first in the country of his birth.

In early 2008, a luxury ocean front residential development will open in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Acqua is the first by Uruguay native and critically acclaimed architect Rafael Viñoly in his homeland.

"I wanted Acqua to be incomparable to any other project in Punra Del Este," says Viñoly, the founder of Rafael Viñoly Architects.

Punta del Este, an upscale South American vacation spot that booms in the warm months of December and January, quietly attracts visitors such as Ralph Lauren, Naomi Campbell, and Kate Moss. Aqua will encompass 34 units--ranging from 3,000 to 16,000 square feet--designed for exclusivity, privacy, and security. Seven units, among them two penthouses, come with infinity pools. Additional amenities include private elevators and parking, wine cellars, a state-of-the-art gym and spa, and a five-star beach club.

"Acqua truly reflects the uniqueness and beauty of its surroundings," Viñoly adds. "In this building we have presented an exceptional integration of sunlight, blue sky, rippling water and distant vistas."Real estate convention Spain Incentives and Meetings Association (SIMA) recently named the project--out of a list of 800--the Most Attractive International Project. The developer is a private investor, Zsolt Agárdy. For more information visit Aqua.
