Two Lux Residential Buildings on the Rise in New York

Occupancy is scheduled for late 2008.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 6/6/2007 12:00:00 AM

Two residential buildings inspired by the “artist’s loft,” are under construction at the largest open buildable site in SoHo. Designed by Gwathmey Siegel and Associates Architects and developed by private real estate firm United American Land, Soho Mews will feature luxury living from 59 two- and three- bedroom lofts, five two-floor townhouses, and four penthouses.

United by a leafy private garden designed by renowned landscape architect and garden designer Peter Walker, the 175,000-square foot development is influenced by the area’s historic cast iron industrial buildings. Both the nine-story building and the eight-story building feature a stone base and a metal and glass façade. The design team selected three types of glass—clear, frosted and fritted—to play with texture and light.

Residents will benefit (with memberships or discounts) from local partnerships with organizations including the New Museum of Contemporary Art; design retailer Moss; and carpet manufacturer Fort Street Studio, among others. Contemporary art, selected by the non-profit organization Art Production Fund, will be showcased in the lobbies and the garden,

“Soho Mews will be a place for less traditional living,” says principal Charles Gwathmey. “Its design is based upon the ideas of the artist’s loft, the varied and rich physical scale and architectural massing of a neighborhood, and the dynamic life of the streets.”

Occupancy is scheduled for late 2008. Prices will range from $2.1 million to $11 million. Soho Mews is located at 311 West Broadway. More information is available at Soho Mews.
