Openhousenewyork Showcases New York City Architecture and Design

Weekend of tours, events opens up the doors to many of New York’s most significant sites

Throwing open the doors of nearly 200 of New York's most significant residential and commercial architectural sites, openhousenewyork (OHNY) will welcome thousands of visitors to locales throughout the five boroughs. Many of the sites are not normally accessible for public viewing.

Sponsored by Target, the fifth annual edition of OHNY takes place October 6 and 7, and also includes architect-led tours and talks, visits to design studios, performances, and family activities. Nearly 30 sites and programs focus on green design. The weekend will also include free access to more than 50 museums, galleries and artist studios.

The New York Times Building, the United Nations, the Rockefeller Center Rooftop Garden, and the former Fresh Kills landfill are among the buildings and sites that will welcome the public.

Among those firms leading tours and studio visits are Rockwell Group, Eisenman Architects, Beyer Blinder Belle, Perkins+Will, and Peter L. Gluck + Partners Architects.

Other highlights include a rare opportunity to walk the High Line (the elevated industrial rail line that is being converted into a public park), a tour of the new New York Times Building, which officially opens later this fall, and tours of "green" residences, including 93 Nevins Street/453 Pacific Street, the first American Lung Association Health House Certified project in New York.
