Brad Pitt's Make It Right Does Duplexes
Currently 32 families are either living in a Make It Right home or have one under construction.

Continuing to live up to it's name, Make It Right, the charitable architecture foundation founded by actor Brad Pitt following Hurricane Katrina, has just announced it will be erecting duplexes for it's next round of rebuilding in New Orleans' storm-ravaged Lower 9th Ward.
"Before the storm, there were a number of duplexes and doubles in the neighborhood," says Make It Right executive director, Tom Darden. "Families who want to come back to the Lower 9th have been asking us to build them so extended families can live together.
The foundation enlisted 14 local, national, and international firms to each come up their own duplex design. Six of the firms, including Interior Design Hall of FamersPugh + Scarpa, were part of the first round of firms that volunteered to design single-family homes for the site. The eight first-time Make It Right firms include Frank Gehry's Gehry Partners from Los Angeles and the Japanese-based Atelier Hitoshi Abe.
The first two Make It Right duplexes are expected to break ground by mid-August. Currently 32 families are either living in a Make It Right home or have one under construction.

Look at the Architectural Digest January 2009 cover with Brad Pitt; you will see who lives there, by the neighbors on the porch. Get right sized designers! Art is subjective; a home needs to be more practical within a nature that shows no mercy.

It is too bad that nobody has studied the demographics for the culture. After 35+ years in the construction business, I find that John Lautner was right. I sat talking with this great man and he said that most architects are media whores bolstering false egos. Interesting…, eh? I assume that Mr. Pitt is about helping the uninsured and homeless. That is a good place to start. The others....? Most of the designs prescribed in your current addition in the New Orleans would not withstand the hurricane force winds with all those exposed eaves and are eye sores. We people in New Orleans need these homes..not for them to have people in California buying them for "novelty" homes that Brad Pitt built. I'm sure there are plenty of other properties for you to look at or hire the firm to build you one but right now there isn't enough homes for us muchless having outsiders come in. Stay in Cali.

So how do I buy one? How much do they cost on average? I live in California but I really like the designs.
