The development includes a new events center for the NBA's Orlando Magic franchise, a new performing arts center, and a renovated Citrus Bowl Stadium.

Plans for the largest public building project in the history of central Florida have been fast-tracked now that the city of Orlando, Florida has retained the URS Corporation to oversee the construction of several major sports and entertainment venues. The project will include a new events center where the NBA's Orlando Magic franchise will play, a new four-story performing arts center, and a renovation of the Citrus Bowl Stadium.

The largest component will be the 800,000-square-foot Events Center, designed by HOK Sport, to host major national conventions and concerts in addition to Magic games. Completion is expected in 2010.

The $376 million, 330,000-square-foot Dr. Phillips Performing Arts Center will include three venues: a 2,800-seat performance hall for large-scale productions such as concerts and Broadway touring companies; a 1,800-seat hall for local performing arts groups; and a 300-seat hall for small performing arts groups.

The Citrus Bowl, built in 1936 and last renovated in 1989, will receive a complete overhaul. The antiquated bench-style bleachers will be replaced with individual seats and supplemented with the addition of 4,000 club seats, 80 luxury boxes, and new bathrooms and concession stands.
